MATERIALS:
GAUGE: In circular stockinette stitch, 18 sts equal 4"

CHANGE TO COLOR B then:
NXT RND: k to next marker, and remove it, k to within 1 stitch of 2nd marker, inc, slip marker, inc, k to third marker,
remove it, k to within 1 st of last marker, inc, slip marker, inc.
CHANGE TO COLOR C then:
NXT RND: Knit working an Increase Round
Change to color A and follow the chart below working the Increase Rounds same instructions as above.
Follow each of the Color Section above 3 more times, ending with a Color Section C. Bind Off.
You can leave the poncho like this if you wish. The neck will roll a little. Or, if you like, with right side facing,
pick up 60 stitches evenly around the neck and purl one round to flatten the neckline.
HOOD:
Change to COLOR B and work 8 rows in stockinette stitch.
Change to COLOR C and work 8 rows in stockinette stitch.
Continue working hood and changing colors every 8 rows until hood measures 8 ½ ", ending after working a wrong
side row.
NXT ROW: Knit to within 9 sts of marker, k 2 tog., k 4, k 2 tog, k1, slip maker, k 1, ssk, k 4, ssk, knit to end of row.
Either Bind off, fold hood in half lengthwise and sew seam OR divide stitches by putting half on separate needles, and kitchener stitch them together. At this point, you can stitch the inside edge of the hood where you increased 3 sts on each side, and then add a crochet string to close the hood, using a safety pin to draw it through the seam. Some prefer not to use string for an infant.

NOTE: Poncho is knit with 2 strands of yarn held together throughout
Begin at neck edge: using the 16" needle and color A, *cast on 16 sts, place a marker; Rep * 3 more times.
NOTE: The first 3 markers should be the same color and the last should be a different color to mark beginning
of round, and the back of the poncho (64 sts). Join to form circle being careful not to twist stitches.
RND 1: [Increase rnd] *Knit to within 1 st of next marker, inc, slip marker, inc. Rep * at each marker, including the beginning of round marker.
RND 2: Knit
Repeat these 2 rounds 3 times more until there are 24 sts between each marker.
NXT RND: [Knit Rnd] Knit all stitches around
NXT RND: [Increase Rnd] k to within 1 st of first marker, inc, slip marker, inc, repeat at 2nd marker
Repeat the Knit Round and the Inc round 2 more times each (total of 4 rounds)
Work one more Knit round.
NXT RND: Purl all stitches around
NXT RND: [Purl Increase Rnd] Purl increasing at each marker (still knitting in front and back of stitch then after making the increase) go back to purling until the next marker)
NXT RND: Purl all stitches around
NXT RND: [Purl Increase Rnd] Purl increasing at each marker as above purl increase rnd
NXT RND: Purl all stitches around
NXT RND: [Purl Iincrease Rnd] as above
NXT RND: KNIT all stitches around. (Change to 24" needle when the smaller one becomes crowded)
ROW 1:
With COLOR A and 16" needle, cast on 3 sts. Then with right side facing, and beginning at the front V of the neck opening (Opposite where you began casting on for poncho), Pick up 60 stitches evenly around neck opening, placing a marker after 30 sts. Then cast on 3 stitches again. You will now be knitting back and forth in stockinette stitch.
ROW 2: Purl
ROW 3: Knit
ROW 4: Purl
Repeat Rows 3 and 4 twice more [total of 8 rows in color A]
Purl one row
Repeat last two rows 3 more times.
Cut fringe strands 10" long. Using one strand of each color, add fringe to every other stitch of the bind off row.
